Phish title new album 'Joy'
No, not every song is 13 minutes long
Phish
Phish, who famously jammed with Bruce Springsteen at Bonnaroo a few short weeks ago, have christened their new album "Joy," due later this summer. It's the band's first studio album in five years and their first with producer Steve Lillywhite since "Billy Breathes."
All the tunes were written specifically for the studio, though the group obviously has no problem playing any new ones live. They performed nine of the album's ten songs at the recent festival gig -- eight of which were premieres -- including the blues-rock "Kill Devil Hills" and the the appropriately uplifting track "Light." The title track -- an sweet one at that -- was penned during Trey Anastasio's sister's struggle with cancer. His sister, Kristy Manning, died in April.
"Time Turns Elastic" is the only song on the album to breach the 10 minute mark (13:29, to be more exact).
Only "I Been Around" hasn't been performed live yet; rumor has it, Phish keyboard player Page McConnell fronts that track. The jam group debuted "Backwards Down The Number Line" at a gig in Virginia in March.
Phish are on a break right now before completing a short tour at the latter end of this summer. Sad, though, every show is already sold out.
Here is the tracklist to "Joy":
