Pavement confirms reunion, plans tour and compilation

"Ever since that fateful night in late 1999 when Pavement left the public eye with a final show at London's Brixton Academy, we've often fantasized about the day when we could finally tell the world 'yes, Brooklyn Vegan scooped us, Pavement are back,'" reads a statement on Pavement's Matador Records homepage.

So what we said was true. Pavement has officially confirmed the Sept. 21, 2010 benefit concert date at Rumsey Field in New York's Central Park. Tickets for that date go up for sale way, way ahead of time tomorrow (Sept. 18, pre-sale) and Sept. 25 (general onsale). 

"Things worked out really well when Diana Ross played Central Park in 1983, and we have no reason to suspect Pavement's return to the live arena won't generate similar headlines," cheekily reads the statement.

Additionally, the group is plotting a "details-to-be-determined compilation album planned for release sometime in 2010" and a world tour, also details pending.

"Please be advised this tour is not a prelude to additional jaunts and/or a permanent reunion," warns the post. Maybe they noticed what you were up to, Pixies.

The original and ever-awesome lineup consists of Mark Ibold, Scott "Spiral Stairs" Kannberg, Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West.

The post also reminded fans that Kannberg's solo project Spiral Stairs has an album "The Real Feel" coming out Oct. 20, and that Malkmus and his Jicks are planning to record a new album, his fifth as a solo artist.
