If anyone needed a third installment of the "Bridget Jones" franchise it would be the recently hit-less Renee Zellweger. Working Title has revealed the project was in the works a few months ago, but may have forgot to inform its leading lady.
Attending Elle Magazine's Women in Hollywood event last night, Zellweger told E!Online's Marc Malkin that she is asked about the new film daily and says, "I don't know anything. It's just a rumor."
Earlier reports even noted that Zellweger would avoid gaining weight like she did for the first two films by wearing a fat suit. The actress was surprised by this news as well and is quoted as replying, "Oh, goody! When are we having the fitting?"
The Oscar winner hasn't had a hit live action movie since 2005's "Cinderella Man" (debatable at best) and her recent commercial disappointments include "My One and Only," "New in Town" and "Appaloosa." Her long on the shelf thriller "Case 39" has been released in some overseas markets, but is likely headed straight to home video in the U.S. Next on her release slate is the indie "My Own Love Song" with Forest Whitaker, Nick Nolte and Elias Koteas - assuming it finds a distributor. To say she should consider playing the popular Ms. Jones once again is something of an understatement.
As of this past June, Working Title hoped to begin production on the third "Jones" before the end of 2010.
