No Joke: 'Avatar's' James Cameron called in by Feds over Gulf oil spill
Oscar winner part of group of scientists asked to come up with ideas

WASHINGTON — "Top kill" didn't stop the Gulf oil spill. How about something "titanic"?
Federal officials are hoping film director James Cameron can help them come up with ideas on how to stop the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The "Avatar" and "Titanic" director was among a group of scientists and other experts who met Tuesday with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for a brainstorming session on stopping the massive oil leak.
The Canadian-born Cameron is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. "Avatar" and "Titanic" are the two highest-grossing films of all time.

June 1, 2010 at 10:32PM EST Reply to CommentYes, lets send in a dumb ass that made a movie that made people commit suicide, and a movie that happened a long time ago.
Fucking amazing.
MSJ Look, this is an important matter and he might have the solution.
June 2, 2010 at 1:07AM ESTIt is definitely not the time for your fanboyish judgements of his movies to influence a discussion of serious, grown up issues.
Justin Yea what MSJ said. James Cameron is a lot of things, but a 'dumbass' is not one of them. He's logged thousands of hours deep-sea diving and, as the article states, using remote controlled submersibles (two traits needed to fix this calamity)....so why NOT ask him for advice? Or would you rather let them just sit by and wait until the oil runs dry in AUGUST? Fuck that. Stop being a child.

"You put a man in a submarine, and send him to the bottom of the sea, only to find out that he is not underwater trying to plug an oil leak, but a quadriplegic man trapped in his own body trying to keep from peeing his pants!"
General: "Um, Mr. Shymalan, that's not an idea, that's a stupid twist."
M. Night: "But what a twist!"
Bring in Michael Bay:
"See, you have to blow up the ocean! BOOOOOM!!! BERK-KOOOWWWW!!! See! Blow it up! That way the oil can't spill into the water because the water will be blown up!!! BOOO-OOOMB!!! KER-POW-EEEEE!!!!
General: "Mr. Bay, that's not an idea, that's just a lot of stupid special effects with no coherent idea behind them."
Bay: "But it'll be fun! And Shia LeBeoff can blow up the ocean! BAAAA-ZOOOOOM!!!"
joeyjojo Similarly, that's not a joke, it's just a slightly paraphrased quote from a TV show.

June 2, 2010 at 1:05AM EST Reply to CommentCameron has connections with scientists. They helped him make Titanic and Avatar as well as those underwater documentaries. He has a lot of money, and is schooled in what the article mentioned above. Maybe he has an idea. He might also film it in HD and 3D, but that is besides the point.
