New Oscar nominee joins HBO's 'Treme'
Melissa Leo joins Clarke Peters, Wendell Pierce and Steve Zahn in David Simon's HBO pilot
Melissa Leo
Newly minted Oscar nominee Melissa Leo is the latest addition to the cast of David Simon's HBO pilot "Treme."
Set in post-Katrina New Orleans, "Treme" will shoot in the Big Easy later this month and focuses on an assortment of local musicians and community leaders rebuilding the city.
According to Variety, Leo will play a civil rights attorney, joining Clarke Peters, Wendell Pierce and Steve Zahn in the pilot, which will be directed by Agnieszka Holland.
Leo earned her first Oscar nomination, and won a Spirit Award, for her role in "Frozen River." No stranger to the small screen, Leo's TV credits include "The Young Riders," "Law & Order" and "Homicide: Life on the Street" (based on Simon's book).
HBO's drama pilots are stockpiling available recent Oscar nominees. Well, maybe "stockpile" is the wrong world, but Michael Shannon, who lost the supporting actor Oscar to Heath Ledger, previously joined the Martin Scorsese drama "Boardwalk Empire."
