James Tupper has landed a lead in NBC's medical ensemble pilot "Mercy."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Universal Media Studios dramedy focuses on the personal and professional lives of three nurses at Mercy Hospital.

Tupper will play a new doctor at the hospital. His character, Dr. Chris Sands, was a former military M.D. in Iraq, where he had an affair with one of the three nurses.

Think McDreamy meets Dr. Hunt.

Most recently seen in a four-episode arc on ABC's "Samantha Who," Tupper is best known for his work as the male lead on ABC's "Men in Trees." His film credits include the upcoming indie "Me and Orson Welles."
