The in-demand leading lady of the "Transformers" franchise recently joined the cast of Mitch Glazer's drama "Passion Plays" where she'll portray an angel who comes into the life of Mickey Rourke.  Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox is joining the cast of Screen Gems new thriller "The Crossing."

Sensationalistic of course, the action picture finds a couple car-jacked while returning from a vacation in Mexico.  The criminals kidnap the husband and recruit the wife (Fox) to smuggle drugs across the border in order to free him.

As with most Screen Gems projects, the director isn't that important and those willing to sacrifice their artistic integrity for a quick paycheck are lining up outside the studio's Culver City office.  The studio seems to have segued from horror fare to more female-driven thrillers such as this month's "Obsessed" with Beyonce and Amy Smart as well as the recently announced "The Roommate" starring "Gossip Girl's" Leighton Messler.  Oh, were has the old Screen Gem days of "Ultraviolet" and "Boogeyman" gone?

For Fox, the actress has this summer's expected mega-hit "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" arriving for July 4th weekend and the Diablo Cody scripted "Jennifer's Body" waiting in the wings.  She's also expected to star in two high profile comic-book adaptations this year: Warner Bros.' "Jonah Hex" and "Fathom for Fox Atomic.

Screen Gems expects production to begin on "The Crossing" as soon as July, assuming Fox doesn't collapse from exhaustion.
