The Sundance Film Festival acquisitions market continues to be red hot, with another buzz title finding high profile distribution.
Fox Searchlight announced on Monday (January 24) that it has acquired worldwide rights to "Martha Marcy May Marlene," a suspense-filled drama featuring this winter's Sundance It Girl Elizabeth Olsen.
Written and Directed by Sean Durkin, "Martha Marcy May Marlene" will be targeted for a 2011 release.
"We were all captivated by the compelling performances and the expert craftsmanship of Sean Durkin," state Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula. "We are excited to bring this gripping drama to audiences everywhere."
Olsen plays Martha, a young women who copes with trauma and paranoia after fleeing a cult and reuniting with her family. The project co-stars Sarah Paulson, John Hawkes and Hugh Dancy.
"Sean Durkin has crafted a riveting first feature," says Claudia Lewis, President of Production. "We are thrilled to be working with a director who has such an original voice. We hope to make many more films with Borderline Films, this exceptional team of young filmmakers."
This is Fox Searchlight's second big Sundance acquisition in two days, following Sunday's pick-up of "Homework."
A long-time member of the TCA Board and a longer-time blogger of "American Idol," Dan Fienberg writes about TV, except for when he writes about movies or sometimes writes about the Red Sox. But never music. He would sound stupid talking about music.
