Mark Wahlberg, Guillermo Del Toro and Chloe Moretz highlight Comic-Con 2010's Friday movie panels
After Thursday's star-packed marathon in Hall H was announced it was hard to believe the Comic-Con programmers could top it, but instead they wisely eased off the pedal to fill a less hectic Friday slate. The movie panels of the day are highlighted by Nic Cage's previously announced return for "Drive Angry 3D," Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell's promoting "The Other Guys," Guillermo Del Toro's new thriller "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," Seth Rogen and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz pushing Michel Gondry's "The Green Hornet" and a very familiar moderator for Universal's "Skyline" panel. Here's a quick rundown of the Friday movie presentation highlights overall.
"Drive Angry 3D"
10:30 - 11:00 AM
Who: Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard and William Fichtner as well as the filmmakers.
Lowdown: Have some coffee before you get to the Hall, because "Drive Angry" ain't no PG-rated "Sorcerer's Apprentice." What else would you expect from the filmmakers behind "Bloody Valentine 3-D"?
Who: Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Jessica Szohr, Steven R. McQueen, Kelly Brook and Adam Scott.
Lowdown: The second 3-D film of the day wants to make sure you don't go in the water. Will fans actually see footage in 3-D? It is the Weinstein Company...
Who: Donald Faison (Scrubs), Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 24), David Zayas (The Expendables, Dexter), Scottie Thompson (Star Trek), and Brittany Daniel (Club Dread) and moderated by Drew McWeeney.
Lowdown: Rogue and Universal Picture's big Sci-Fi flick that's hitting theaters in Nov. Oh, and it's going to be moderated by none other than HitFix's Drew McWeeny. How can you skip that?
Who: Live Tyler, Rainn Wilson, Nathan Fillion and director James Gunn.
Lowdown: Harking back to the pre-studio days of the Con, "Super" is an indie action comedy from the writer and director of "Slither" still looking for distribution. The reaction of footage from the Hall H crowd may go miles in either helping or hurting it's theatrical chances.
"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark"
Who: Guillermo del Toro and director Troy Nixey
Lowdown: Will star Katie Holmes make a surprise appearance? And who owns this Miramax thriller? Or, more importantly, who is distributing it?
"The Other Guys" and "The Green Hornet"
4:00 - 6:00 PM
Who: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes and director Adam McKay Seth Rogen, Michel Gondry, Christoph Waltz,
Lowdown: Ferrell is back for day two at his inaugural con, Wahlberg and Mendes are making return appearances, but everyone will be most curious about "The Green Hornet" footage. Reaction to the first trailer was very mixed. Can Gondry and Rogen sell the faithful on their vision for the untraditional hero?
Entertainment Weekly: Girls Who Kick Ass: A New Generation of Heroines
Who: Jenna Malone, Anna Tov, Chloe Moretz, Adrianne Palicki, Ellen Wong, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Lowdown: Usually these group panels are hit or miss, but this crew seems as though they will be a lot of fun to listen to and quiz for an hour. They may be girls who kick ass, but thankfully they aren't divas.
