Leonard Nimoy lands key 'Fringe' role
'Star Trek' legend will reportedly play William Bell on FOX drama
Leonard Nimoy
One of the big mysteries on FOX's "Fringe" this season is the identity of William Bell, the genius founder of Massive Dynamic.
The casting of the role would have to make fanboy audiences happy.
The show couldn't have done better, it would seem.
FringeTelevision.com was first to report that "Star Trek" legend Leonard Nimoy will play Bell, making his first appearance in the May 12 "Fringe" season finale, titled "There's More Than One of Everything."
Nimoy worked with "Fringe" creators J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman on this May's upcoming reboot of "Star Trek."
According to Michael Ausiello at EW, Nimoy's Bell will have a single scene in the finale, but that he'll be back next season for three additional episodes, an optimistic gesture that assumes FOX will pick up a second "Fringe" season.
Nimoy's last TV guest appearance came in a 2001 episode of "Becker."
