Months after the network opted not to go forward on his last pilot, Kelsey Grammer has signed on for an untitled comedy at ABC.

According to Variety, Grammer will play a corporate tycoon whose job is downsized, forcing him to reconnect with his family. Tucker Cawley ("Everybody Loves Raymond") is writing the pilot, which is set up at Warner Bros. TV.

Produced by Tom Werner's Good Humor TV, the pilot will be a multi-camera half-hour.

This means that both of the Emmy-winning stars of FOX's short-lived "Back to You" will be bucking for comedy space on ABC. Patricia Heaton's "The Middle" is also in development at the network through WBTV.

Grammer's most recently appeared in the pilot "Roman's Empire," which ABC opted not to send to series.

The "Frasier" and "Cheers" veteran has been seen on the big screen in "An American Carol" and "Swing Vote." He also has a role in MGM's upcoming remake of "Fame."

Disappointed in Hank. LOved Frazier so much we rewatch epsodes over and over. Idea to make it better. Have Hank pursue a singing career as a long time dream (now that he is at a new crossroad in his life) He could start by singing and playing dinner restaurants. Find out that he has to lower his standards to Country music to get foot in door. Would open up possibilities for cameos of current music stars (more appeal to younger audience). I am always disappointed on other shows because he never finishes a show. He has a beautiful voice.
This would certainly be different than anything currently on TV.
My favorite Cheers was when he and Lillith had to keep singing to stall for some reason that I can't remember. I am a fan and would really like to see Hank make it.
