Many people think of the "Saw" franchise as the face of Lionsgate, but the studio is also become just as well known as the home of UK action star Jason Statham. The actor has already made "Crank," "Crank: High Voltage," "The Bank Job" for the studio which will also distribute next year's "The Expendables," Sylvester Stallone's all-star action star thriller. Now, Variety reports Statham is set to shoot yet another Lionsgate flick, "Blitz."
A production of Lionsgate UK just as "Bank Job" was, "Blitz" will find Statham playing a London cop assigned with tracking down a serial killer targeting serial killers. Paddy Considine is also on board as his partner.
While "Bank Job" was a critical hit, but box office disappointment stateside, it was a big hit in the UK. Lionsgate is counting on that same formula to make a strong profit on "Blitz."
Besides "The Expendables," Statham recently finished production on the dramatic thriller "13" with Mickey Rourke.
Production on "Blitz" will begin August 10 in London.
