The fifth season of FX's "Rescue Me" has yet to premiere, but the cable network is ready for more.

According to Variety, FX has ordered an 18-episode sixth season of "Rescue Me."

FX has yet to set a timetable for production on the fifth season, but executive producers Denis Leary and Peter Tolan will return, along with fellow exec producer Jim Serpico.

The firefighting drama's epic fifth season will premiere on April 7 at 10 p.m. ET.

"Rescue Me" hasn't aired a new episode since September of 2007, but fans will more than get their fill when it returns. Delayed due to the WGA strike the fifth season of "Rescue Me" will feature 22 original episodes over 23 weeks with a finale on Sept. 8.

The show's fourth season averaged 4.8 million viewers per week, a figure that includes four airings.
