It has yet to premiere, but already there's less life in FOX's "Past Life."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, FOX has cut its order for the midseason Warner Brothers TV show down to only seven episodes (including the pilot).

"Due to the return of 'American Idol,' '24' and our other midseason programming in January, as well as the back order of 'Glee,' we have a wealth of material for midseason and can only accommodate seven episodes of 'Past Life' on our schedule," the network tells the trade paper in a statement.

In May, FOX showed a vote of confidence in the paranormal mystery series by giving it a Tuesday night time slot after "American Idol." It's unclear if "Past Life" will still hold that slot come January or February or whenever "American Idol" starts making room for Tuesday companions.

"Past Life" stars Kelli Giddish, Nicholas Bishop, Ravi Patel and Richard Schiff as a team of investigators who solve crimes using past life regression. Yes, they get a lot of funny looks.

It was a really good mystery drama. It really held my attention. I loved the story lines.

I'm also enjoying the show, but given Fox's history of killing off great shows (e.g., Brimstone), I won't hold my breath that Past Life will continue.
