First major deal at Sundance: Paramount falls for 'Like Crazy'
PARK CITY - "Like Crazy" a romantic drama in competition at the Sundance Film Festival has been acquired by Paramount Pictures for a reported $4 million.
The film stars Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones as Jacob and Anna, a young couple who meet and fall madly in love while in college. Life and circumstances force them into a long distance relationship, however, and the two must navigate their feelings and as they struggle to stay together over time and geographical boundaries. It is a surprising and mature role for Anton Yelchin, who is probably best known for playing Chekov in the 'Star Trek' reboot. Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) also appears in a supporting role. The film is directed by Drake Doremus who co-wrote the script with Ben York Jones.
The news of the deal, finalized in the wee hours of the morning, comes as no surprise to the throngs of people who have tried to get into packed screenings as the buzz about the film, contributed to by HitFix's Gregory Ellwood, has been loud and positive since it fist showed here at the festival.
