EXCLUSIVE: 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson confirmed for Oscars
Still unclear is whether the "New Moon's" co-star Kristin Stewart will also appear
Robert Pattinson is confirmed to appear on the 81st Academy Awards.
After being the first outlet to report that M.I.A. had delivered her baby and would not be performing at this year's 81st Academy Awards, HitFix can now exclusively confirm that Robert Pattinson will be presenting an award during this year's telecast.
The "Twilight" star had long been rumored to appear on Hollywood's biggest night, but barring any unforeseen last minute conflicts, he'll be giving the franchise's legion of fans something to look forward to on Oscar Sunday.
Still unclear is whether Pattinson's "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart will also appear on the telecast and what award he will specifically present. And, obviously, speculation will now run rampant on who Pattinson's date down the red carpet will be.
Pattinson rose to super-stardom after being chose to play the dreamy vampire Edward Cullen in "Twilight." The first in a series of big screen adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's popular book series, "Twilight" astounded the industry by raking in $188 million domestically and $357 million worldwide.
The 22-year-old Brit will appear later this spring as Salvador Dali in the indie drama "Little Ashes." He's expected to begin production next month on the "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon" which will be released Nov. 20.
Update: Today it was announced Zac Efron and Miley Cyrus will be presenting on the show. For more, click here.

February 17, 2009 at 1:05AM EST Reply to CommentI think this is terrific news. I am so happy for everything that is happening for Robert. He's waited patiently and a long time for his talent to be seen and now it's shining and he's still the same guy he always was. Congrats, Rob!

February 17, 2009 at 3:28AM EST Reply to CommentIt's awesome that his career is taking off. In interviews he makes me laugh (laughter is great, especially if you can laugh at yourself). Robert gives me the impressions he has a unique sense of self and is very dedicated to his work. Robert laughs a lot, I find that his laughter and humor in interviews shows a great deal of sex appeal (granted the movie helped, but it's not his first movie and won't be his last). He is not afraid to take a risk, he's unique and a bit nutty (which is what I love best about him). Rob you are very talented keep up the good work!

February 17, 2009 at 4:47AM EST Reply to CommentThat would be amazing! He's been in hiding out in pubs in London! What better way to make your comeback to the scene than the Oscars! I can't wait to see him & Kristen!

February 17, 2009 at 6:43AM EST Reply to CommentI couldnt be happier with this news. Finally a reason to watch the oscars. I hope they mention Little Ashes when they introduce him. A friend of mine saw Little Ashes in London at Raindance and said if the film gets enough push Rob could be up for Best Supporting Actor oscar. His performance as Dali was (according to her) very brave and you couldnt take your eyes off him when he's on screen.

February 17, 2009 at 12:49PM EST Reply to CommentI do not watch the awards and while I like Robert his presenting will not make me watch them. I prefer the peoples choice awards. I think the academy makes a habit of only targeting certain types of films and only honoring specific artists, I am sure that Heath Ledger will likely finally receive the recognition that he deserved, but rightly in life, not in death...but better late than never. So as I said while I support Robert and his career...his decision to present is not enough to make me change my mind of the institution as a whole, I stand by my convictions and I think if anyone would understand that...he would!

February 17, 2009 at 4:02PM EST Reply to CommentYep, me too. This will be my first time watching them and RPatz has given me the reason. I don't think he will be there WITH Kristen though they may present something together. That would be cool. He is so hot!

February 17, 2009 at 6:40PM EST Reply to CommentI always watch the Academy Awards. I consider it my "Superbowl." I cannot wait to see Rob presenting an award. I am very happy for him. It doesn't matter who he escorts on the red carpet as she will be one lucky lady. Hugh Jackman has said on the commercials for the Academy Awards that there will definitely be surprises. I guess this is one of the surprises. Speaking of surprises, I do hope that Catherine Hardwicke is recognized for the fact that she is the first female director to have commanded such a huge box office success with Twilight. Also, I believe Carter Burwell's score of the Twilight movie (especially "Bella's Lullaby ")should have been nominated. It truly is hauntingly beautiful. I think Hollywood and the Academy need to realize how important Stephenie Meyer's book saga is. Stephenie has brought so much happiness into the lives of people (female and male) spanning ages between 10 and 85. Stephenie was gracious enough to share her "dream" with the world when she wrote and released "Twilight." In today's economy, Stephenie Meyer single-handedly has done more for this country than anyone I can think of. Stephenie Meyer deserves much more respect and recognition than she has received thus far. Hollywood has definitely reaped hefty rewards because of her. Thank you Stephenie for sharing your "dream" with the world.

February 17, 2009 at 6:43PM EST Reply to CommentLooks like the "Academy" will also reap "viewer" rewards because of Rob presenting. Stephenie Meyer's domino effect just keeps on going and giving.

February 17, 2009 at 6:55PM EST Reply to CommentI can watch his appearance on the Oscars after someone is good enough to upload it online on some popular video website or where ever . I would get a better chance to see Robert without having to watch the whole show waiting for him plus I might not be able to be in front of a tv when the Oscars are on. I love Robert more than most people claim they do and here is my chance to see him in a fancy venue where everyone is a big star and belongs there! Rob will be the best star of all there ; I don't care who else will be there HE will be the best star there in my opinion!!!! I love him to death and look foreward to this and am now happy to have something great to look foreward to!

February 18, 2009 at 8:41AM EST Reply to CommentI watch the Oscars every year. I am always amazed at what they have to bring. To the publics eye, but this year I think my eye pretty much will only be on Rob. It will be a nice ending to my weekend. I am going to the TWILIGHT TOUR CONFERENCE 2009 in San Francisco this weekend. The other Actors will be there.

February 24, 2009 at 12:24AM EST Reply to CommentYoung Mr. Pattinson cleans up very well, I may say. He did however need a little shave but he is very masculine with the stubble and I rarely say anything like this about any man. Like him better like this than looking like a made up ken doll. I think men should stay looking like men and not outdo the women.
