Elijah Wood hasn't been on the big screen recently, but he's returning this summer in a new idie thriller co-starring John Hurt, "The Oxford Murders."

Based on Guillermo Martinez's novel, "Oxford" finds Wood playing a grad student who arrives on the scene of the famous English university attempting to become the pupil of a noted professor of logic portrayed by John Hurt.  Unfortunatley, they both discover an elderly woman who has been murdered at the school and quickly realize they have a serial killer on their hands.

In this exclusive clip provided to HitFix, Hurt tries to explain to a local detective the complex reasoning behind the killer's motives and how it may be a massive cause for alarm.  You can watch the clip embedded above this post.

The picture was directed by Álex De La Iglesia, who is known for his popular Spanish-language films "El día de la bestia" and "El Crimen Perfecto (The Perfect Crime)."

"Oxford" will be available on VOD, XBox Live, Playstation, Amazon and Vudu on July 2.  It opens in limited release in theaters on Aug. 6.
