According to anonymous sources, actress Ashley Fink - who portrays the abrasive Lauren Zizes on Fox's smash hit "Glee" - will enjoy considerably less screentime in the show's upcoming third season.
Michael Ausiello over at TVLine got the scoop, which reveals that Lauren goes through a major upheaval in episode one - resulting in a heavily-reduced role in the onscreen goings-on at McKinley High this year.
Ausiello points out that questions over Fink's continued presence on the series were inflamed last week, when Fox released official gallery photos from season three that failed to include her character - viewed as odd at the time given her greatly elevated role during season two.
Though a rep for the show declined comment and Fink's reps couldn't be reached, another anonymous "insider" minimized any negative connotations by stating that as a recurring character, Lauren isn't guaranteed an active part in major storylines the way the series regulars are. Not to mention that this season, the show's writers are being forced to deal with an influx of four new "Glee Project" winners.
Whatever the case, Gleeks are sure to be speaking up as this bit of news makes its way across the web. So what do you think?
"Glee" Season 3 premieres Tuesday, September 20th at 8 PM on Fox.

September 9, 2011 at 1:43AM EST Reply to CommentI am truely sadden to hear about this casting decision. Glee has always protraded itself as a show about outcasts that people can relate to & be inspired by. But beside Ashley all the girls are skinny, pretty girls. Ashley's chacater was the only.one showing that no matter what your size you can do whatever u put your mind too. That as long you believe in yourself & love who you are you can stand up for yourself, sing & dance in glee club (hell join a club period), demand to be wooed, run for prom queen or anything else you wanna do. If her charater's role is minamized or put on the back burner it will be doing a disservice to a whole demagraphic. I hope the writers & powers that be at Glee will seriously reconsider this desicion.
John Mercedes is neither skinny nor (IMHO) pretty. Just sayin'...

September 9, 2011 at 12:13PM ESTFirst of all, it sounds like you are saying Lauren/Ashley is unattractive. Second of all, Mercedes/Amber is certainly not skinny, but she is attractive. Why do you act as if Mercedes/Amber does not exist? I know her character has not had any major storylines recently, but she is still given many chances to show off her great voice.
Ashley Fink seems like a nice person, but the character of Lauren Zizes was terrible. She could not sing or dance, and other than her romance with Puck she did not bring anything to the glee club.
I appreciate the diversity of body types on the show, but Ashley/Lauren was not a good fit for the show. Hopefully they will add a male character who is neither skinny nor muscular. There is no diversity of body type in the male cast, unless you count Dave Karofsky.

September 9, 2011 at 4:23AM EST Reply to Commentnothing against Ashley, she's a good actress and everything, but Lauren Zizes is a horrible character. also, none of the Glee Project kids should've been given roles, Cameron was the only one, and maybe the girl that got 3rd or 4th, whatever her name is.. but it's true, they don't need to be giving her character a lot of screen time if she's just a recurring character and not a regular, regardless of how elevated she was last season, which was only due to them needing a body to fill because Kurt left and Puck being interested in her. like i said, I like Ashley, but Lauren didn't really bring anything to the table
however, i'd rather see more Lauren than more lame Rachel and Finn drama. am i the only one who wants them to not be together? so annoying.

September 9, 2011 at 8:37AM EST Reply to Commenti think her character is annoying as hell. she's a good actress, but i don't see the point in Lauren. she's antagonistic and unlikeable. not to mention, going from a total zero to Puck's girlfriend seems like a major stretch.
unknow I agree. Lauren is a useless character and boring besides. Yeah also the fact that Rachel is constantly the center of attention makes me want to scream she is so awfully annoying, it's like her character never matures and never learns anything from her past mistakes.. sorry no one is that naive. Plus her wardrobe looks like an Amish grandma's minus the bonnets...

September 9, 2011 at 8:38AM EST Reply to CommentI'm actually happy about this news. It's not a weight thing, I'm also overweight so I can identify. But here character is a waste. I don't recall her having too many solo numbers, I couldn't even tell you if she can sing!!! Plus, she's just mean... I don't like Santana either, but somebody has to be the b*tch. At least they showed her softer side with Brittany last season. As for the Glee kids, don't know and don't care. If they can sing, I'm ok with them.

September 9, 2011 at 3:23PM EST Reply to CommentThis is just free publicity for Glee. Talk about drama! We all knew Ryan Murphy was terrible with storylines from his days running Nip/Tuck, which saw a number of storylines ignored, dropped, or changed. He is really inconsistent and takes on too much only to randomly pick "stories of the day" and drop major arcs

September 9, 2011 at 5:06PM EST Reply to CommentI am sad by this desicion and ashamed at Fox and the creators of Glee. Why don't you tell us why you are reducing her role instead of being shady about it. I love Lauren because of who and what she is. She's a big girl and she's confident with herself. I loved that they got her with Puck and know that several of my overweight friends liked that an actual true to life person was being shown in a very popular TV show. I love Glee and I'll still watch it, but all of these changes (reducing Ashley's character, basically firing Sam, bringing in these new characters that I'm sure people are not going to be that connected too and all the drama going on with Lea and Chris) has just got me frustrated with the show. I'll still watch it, but if you are reducing Ashley's screen time to make room for more Rachel-Finn storyline its just going to piss me off! And I love Brittany and Santana (part of the reason why I still watch the show) but after seeing the promo pics of them back in their Cheerios outfits I'm just like, "Really? Are we going to play this on-off-on-off-back on game EVERY SEASON?! Anyway, I just had to vent about it. I'm going to watch Season 3, but honestly they've lost a lot of their steam from Season 1...

September 10, 2011 at 8:01AM EST Reply to CommentBest news EVER. I was actually worried that I didn't like 'Lauren' because I was a closeted bigot and biased by Ashley's weight. But then I read an article by someone a few months ago who expressed the same sentiment. He thought long and hard about it and bottom line was (and I agree 100%), Lauren's character is mean, pushy, the biggest bitch on the show and that's why I never liked her. Good riddance, and PS, Ashley was not that good an actress to begin with! Less Lauren's character, the better!

October 3, 2011 at 9:16PM EST Reply to CommentAshley Fink is awesome, Lauren is not... sorry she is just horrible. Although now it seems that the bigger girls have to go back to idolising Mercedes. I would be happy to see more Klaine personally. I used to love Rachel but now she is just annoying - she doesn't grow.

October 3, 2011 at 9:18PM EST Reply to CommentAshley Fink is awesome , Lauren is not. Although I love that she was grungey and her looks are downp played (ashley in real life though is pretty) and not like Rachel who thinks she ugly and actually not. The answer? More Kurt and Blaine.
