Comedy Central will roast Joan Rivers
'Spaceballs' star follows Flava Flav, Bob Saget and William Shatner on the hot seat
Joan Rivers
Joan Rivers has been mocking herself in detailed and graphic fashion for decades. Will there be anything left when Comedy Central looks at the plastic surgery-loving comic?
Comedy Central announced on Wednesday (April 8) that the cable network will tape a roast of Rivers on Sunday, July 26, airing on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 10 p.m. ET.
"I'm thrilled to be doing this for Comedy Central," Rivers says in a statement. "The last time I was Roasted I was half of a two-for-one special: Joan of Arc and me."
Rivers, one of the stars of this season's "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC, is probably best known to contemporary audiences for her mistake-laden Red Carpet specials. It's almost impossible to remember that she was once a respected comic and Johnny Carson's most reliable guest host on "The Night Show."
“Joan Rivers is a comedic genius who has proven that she can take it as hard as she gives it,” says Elizabeth Porter, SVP, specials and talent, Comedy Central. "She's such a lovely person, but when she takes aim, no one is going to be spared. It should be a crazy night."
