CBS dams up 'Three Rivers'
Alex O'Loughlin drama is pulled, with 'Cold Case' moving back to 9 p.m.

Alex O'Loughlin's return to CBS was even briefer than his first stint.
CBS has pulled "Three Rivers" from its schedule effective immediately, moving "Cold Case" into the 9 p.m. slot. The 10 p.m. slot will be occupied by procedural repeats, starting with "NCIS: Los Angeles" this coming Sunday and "Criminal Minds" the week after.
For the time being, CBS is only describing "Three Rivers" as "on hiatus," a pretty meaningless description.
The series is expected to complete its 13 episode order (8 have aired), but it's unclear if any additional episodes of "Three Rivers" will make it to air. It's also unclear what CBS will air in the place of "Three Rivers" in the spring, though the retooled version of "Miami Trauma" is the most likely and most available midseason replacement (because replacing one failed medical procedural with a second would make total sense).
CBS sent "Three Rivers" to series in large part due to the conviction that O'Loughlin would bring his "Moonlight" fanbase (and more) to a sturdier series in a studier time slot. Instead, "Three Rivers" was heavily recast and heavily reshot before premiering to dismissive reviews and lackluster ratings. While "The Amazing Race" has enjoyed a strong fall season, boosted by NFL and "60 Minutes," "Three Rivers" has regularly squandered much of that lead-in.

November 30, 2009 at 9:56PM EST Reply to Commenthoped his Moonlight fans would join the party? For
a show they claimed to have cancelled because it
didn't have the numbers, that's pure hypocrisy on
CBS' part. Good luck Alex in whatever comes next.
You deserve success.
Katherine So ... um ... bring back Moonlight. You'll get your 'fan-base' back. (network idiots.)
November 30, 2009 at 10:32PM EST Reply to CommentYvonne Helene Marshall It is a shame that this show is being cancelled. It was a good show that was put in a bad time slot.I am an Alex fan and loved Moonlight. This show should have bewen moved to a better time slot so more people would see it. I am sorry to see it go and this may be the last time Alex does a TV series for a while. This show never had a chance.
December 1, 2009 at 12:56AM EST Reply to CommentElle Okay, so let's think about this one a moment. CBS cancels a show with a huge fan base for no good reason then recasts the lead in a show that has nothing to do with the original premise, mismanages its press to and allows stories to leak out about how awful it is, introduces it on the worst night to find new television since the games ALWAYS run late, and then blames the Moonlight fans for not giving it the numbers it deserves to stay afloat.
December 1, 2009 at 4:55AM EST Reply to CommentYeah, I don't get it ether.
Jay First Numb3rs gets cut down to half this season and now Three Rivers is going to disappear? Remind me why I bother watching CBS again? Silly me, I thought Three Rivers could be my Numb3rs replacement since I would be missing that show, but now I will be missing both! And I agree, having Three Rivers start late a few times certainly didn't help it -- how are you supposed to know when to watch it if you turn the TV on at the right time and something else is on instead?
December 1, 2009 at 9:07AM EST Reply to CommentLunarlover I am glad to hear that "Three Rivers" is cancelled. Not for Alex's sake, but to prove to CBS that Moonlight was the better show with more fans. I hope Alex can finally get away from CBS. They obviously don't understand his fans and what they want. But then they never did, once the cancelled "Moonlight". I wish you all the best Alex!
December 1, 2009 at 11:13AM EST Reply to CommentTilda The thing is Moonlight ( which honestly was not that good) did not have a huge following or the ratings would have been higher, period and Three Rivers( plain bad) followed suit. Alex might be a dreamy guy but he cannot carry a show.I think they should put him on one of the crime shows as a recurring character or give him a part in Miami Trauma.
December 1, 2009 at 1:21PM EST Reply to CommentKaren Alex cannot carry a show. He is just not that good of an actor. He should just stick with small supporting roles which he is fine in.This is his second disaster. Wake up CBS and get rid of the awful actor.
December 1, 2009 at 6:46PM EST Reply to Commentsue criss Unfortunately, the amazingly talented Alex O'Loughlin has been overlooked by the powers at be at CBS...AGAIN! I am praying for Alex to find his TV niche, but if he doesn't, I'll continue to watch his films. Yes, Moonlight was a better show than TR, but if people would see this young man's acting ability (WHICH IS AMAZING)and forget the politics, he might get a break. Fantastic looking? Absolutely!! Phenomenal actor? PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE-HE IS THAT AND THEN SOME, NOT JUST EYE CANDY! I for one will be boycotting CBS and it's sponsors until this network wises up. Alex, hang in there...talent like yours is rare!!!
