Cartoon Network has picked up a second season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

Since premiering in Oct. 2008, the computer animated series from Lucasfilm Ltd. has been particular strong among young male viewers, claiming the No. 1 series across the entire basic cable landscape in 2008 and through January 2009 with boys 6-11. The series has also regularly won its time slot in several other young male demos.

"'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' is like nothing else on television and has delivered for us on all levels,” says Stuart Snyder, President/COO Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. "It has helped us launch a great new night of action-adventure on Fridays and build on our dominance with boys. We look forward to continuing what has been a great relationship with George and everyone at Lucasfilm."

The second season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will premiere in the fall of 2009 and will continue the Jedi-infused adventures bridging the gap between the second and third "Star Wars" movies. The series has combined familiar franchise characters like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and, of course, Yoda, with new characters like Anakin's padawan learner Ahsoka.

"We're trying to push the envelope even further in the second season," says George Lucas in a statement. "In the features, I focused on telling the story of the Skywalker family. With The Clone Wars I'm exploring far beyond that and we barely scratched the surface in the first season. It's exciting to be able to take people to all these new places in the Star Wars galaxy."

The first season finale of "Star Wars: Clone Wars" will air on Cartoon Network on Friday, March 20 at 9 p.m. ET.

In addition, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will be airing encores on TNT starting with a double-episode special on Feb. 14 and moving into a regular time slot at 10 p.m. on Wednesday nights starting on Feb. 18.
