What you need to know if you want to try and attend

A press conference was held this morning to announce the details of the planned Michael Jackson memorial this Tuesday at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
The event will be free to the public and tickets will be randomly distributed to fans who register at StaplesCenter.com. 11,000 tickets will be distributed for Staples Center itself with another 6,500 for the Nokia Theater across the street.
Fans can register from today until 6 PM PST tomorrow on StaplesCenter.com. A program will randomly select the names and attendees will be sent an E-mail between 8 AM - 8 PM PST on Sunday, July 5 where they can pick up their tickets and wristbands on Monday, July 6. Tickets will not be distributed at Staples Center or the LA Live complex. Additionally, there will be no outside broadcast at the LA Live or Staples Center video screens. Anyone who tries to come near Staples without a wristband will be turned away by LAPD.
A worldwide pool feed of the event will be provided. It's expected most cable news networks will cover the event live.
There were some concerns about whether the City of Los Angeles would be fitting the bill for the security around this event, but Councilwoman Jan Perry announced a majority of the costs were already budgeted under a line item for "extraordinary events" that are included every year. However, in this tough economic time, they are looking for other contributions for sanitation, etc. Private donations covered a majority of the costs for the Lakers championship celebration last month.
No details were revealed on the contents of the Memorial itself although everyone was reminded this was clearly, a memorial.
Look for full coverage of the Memorial including a live blog from HitFix's own Melinda Newman this Tuesday, July 7 at 10 AM PST 1 PM EST.
