Bravo has picked up "NYC Prep," a new docu-series that sounds an awful lot like a certain buzz-worthy CW teen soap.
"NYC Prep" focuses on six affluent teenagers who are at the center of the Manhattan social scene, privileged students at the city's ritziest private schools.
"Bravo continues to intrigue audiences with real-life depictions of relatable characters who live in exclusive worlds," says Frances Berwick, executive vice president and general manager for Bravo Media. "We'll watch as these teenagers manage the ups and downs of not only being in high school, but what comes along with growing up as part of New York's elite."
Indeed, despite the worldwide economic downturn, Bravo continues to draw big audiences for shows about affluent housewives in various cities.
In "NYC Prep," the show's cameras follow Camille, Jessica, Kelli, PC, Sebastian and Taylor, as they do their best to outdo Blair, Serena and Chuck Bass, with expensive vacations, expensive parties, expensive shopping trips and other fruits of their parents' (and/or grandparents') labors.
"But," Bravo's press release warns us, "privilege has its price. Despite their carefree lives, the pressure of lofty expectations can sometimes be too much for even the most confident teenagers."
Uh-oh! Poor kids!
"NYC Prep" comes to Bravo from Stone & Company Entertainment, the folks behind "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style."
Bravo has already set a Tuesday, June 16 premiere for the series. That premiere episode will air at 11 p.m. ET, but starting on June 23, "NYC Prep" will move into a Tuesday 10 p.m. time slot.
