Before you see 'UP,' meet Doug and watch this extended new clip
Another critically acclaimed Pixar flick hits theaters today
Carl and Russell have quite the adventure in "Up."
"Up" is getting the rave reviews you'd expect for a release during Pixar's golden age of CG animation. That means a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and a staggering 16 100's on Metacritic for an impressive 89 average. So, want to find out what all the hype is about? Well, you can read the review from HitFix's own Drew McWeeny or check out some stills from the movie here, but with the clips below you can get a true taste of filmmaker Pete Doctor and Bob Peterson's family friendly motion picture.
A look at how dreams get sidetracked in a person's life, "Up" finds widower Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner) realizing the best way to honor his late wife is to pursue her childhood dream of visiting the peaks of South America. To get there, he uses his own home as a means of transportation. Unfortunately Russell, a young Wilderness Explorer (aka Boy Scout) voiced by Jordan Nagal, comes along for the ride. After a stormy trip, they find the mysterious bird known only as The Snipe and a former adventurer who mistakenly thinks they are in his way.
As for your previews, first up, meet Doug the talking dog. Yep, it's another one of those typical Disney tricks to make the young tykes laugh, but it's not anywhere near as grating or, cough, "Bolt"-ish as it could have been. You may chuckle a bit yourself.
Next, check out a long, action packed clip where Carl and Russell find themselves trying to escape the decades old greed of explorer Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer).
"Up" is now playing in 3D nationwide.
