ABC Family cancels 'Kyle XY,' renews 'Greek'
Net also orders series for '10 Things I Hate About You'

ABC Family made some big lineup moves on Friday (Jan. 30) night, ordering three new shows, renewing two others and canceling one of the network's highest profile shows.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC Family has renewed "Greek" for a third season and the critically acclaimed "Lincoln Heights" for a fourth season. Both shows have been picked up for 10 episodes.
The future is also looking good, not-so-surprisingly, for "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." ABC Family's smash hit drama is expected to be renewed, though sides are still discussing the length of the order.
Things are bleak, however, for "Kyle XY." The highly regarded sci-fi mystery has reportedly been cancelled after three seasons. The third season premiered only two weeks ago. No reason was given for the cancellation.
ABC Family will triply fill the gap left by "Kyle XY," ordering 10 episode seasons of the comedies "Ruby and the Rockits" and "10 Things I Hate About You," as well as the drama "Perfect 10."
Based on the movie of the same name (the Hollywood Reporter doesn't care to mention "Taming of the Shrew"), "10 Things I Hate About You" focuses on the Stratford Sisters, independent-minded Kate (Lindsey Shaw) and social butterfly Bianca (Meaghan Jette Martin).
"Ruby" stars Patrick Cassidy as a former teen idol living incognito with his wife and sons. When his brother and former bandmate (David Cassidy) shows up in town with his daughter (Alexa Vega), everything becomes complicated.
And "Perfect 10" focuses on a group of teenage Olympic gymnastic hopefuls.

February 1, 2009 at 1:39AM EST Reply to CommentThis makes me incredibly sad. Greek and Lincoln Heights gets renewed and Kyle XY gets cancelled. Until Kyle XY came along, no one I knew had ever heard of ABC Family. It was a huge hit when it premiered but due to long breaks between seasons and basically no promotion after the first season, it's viewers lost track of the show. In the postcard campaign to save the show, many people I approached to sign a postcard stated they thought the show had been cancelled. They had no idea it came back in January. ABC Family turned it's back on the show that made it a household name. I have no interest in the teen shows that ABC Family is focusing on now. To me, ABC Family is now back to being just another channel I scroll by when going through the TV guide. I will always be grateful for all the wonderful memories the Kyle XY cast and crew have given us.

February 28, 2009 at 1:04PM EST Reply to CommentGiven what I've seen from ABS Family cancel vs. pickup practices, I suspect it appears to have something to do with someone not willing to spend enough time on the casting couch.
Greek is a brain dead show of nothingness. Lincoln Heights is okay, just a bit too predictable.
And Kyle XY had such a great cast and potential routes to travel down with a new story line each week. Too bad.
