A Fox date shuffle for 'Tooth Fairy' and 'Date Night'
Three buzzworthy pictures get new release dates
20th Century Fox has found new opening weekends for three of their most anticipated upcoming films.
First up is the family comedy "The Tooth Fairy" with Dwayne Johnson and ready for a career revival Ashley Judd. Originally scheduled for Nov. 13, the comedy fantasy is getting out of the way of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" train which is expected to dominate theaters Nov. 20. The new date, Jan. 22, 2010, is similar to this year's opening for the studio's "Taken" which became a major first quarter hit.
The other major title making a move is the Tina Fey and Steve Carell event comedy "Date Night." Just beginning production, the Shawn Levy flick is now set for an April 9 release. Earlier this month, the huge opening of "Fast & Furious" proved a studio could deliver a blockbuster opening in early April. It's also worth noting Tina Fey's last hit, "Baby Mamma," opened during the same month in 2008.
The studio also recently announced the big screen adaptation of Rick Riordan's young adult books, "Percy Jackson," will hit theaters Feb. 12, 2010. Starring Sean Bean, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan and Catherine Keener, them movie follows on a young man who discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and is the key to ending an on-going war between the gods.
Fox's next release is the expected blockbuster "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
