The second sequel to "Big Momma's House" has been launched into development, with Randi Mayem Singer ("The Tooth Fairy," "Mrs. Doubtfire") tapped to write the script.

Variety reports that New Regency/David Friendly are back for "Big Momma's House 3"; however, there's still the question of whether Martin Lawrence will return for a third time to cross-dress as an agent-in-disguise.

The first and second of the "Big Momma's" movies raked in $174 million and $138 million, respectively, but the franchise might run into issues if Lawrence declines, a la Macaulay Culkin-less "Home Alone 3."

On the other hand, both audiences and investors may have a renewed interest in a third "Big Momma's House" spurred by Tyler Perry's popular "Madea" character and films.

"Big Momma's House" was released in 2000 while "Big Momma's House 2" hit theaters in 2006.
