FOX has renewed the drama "Lie to Me" for a second season, with a high-profile change at the top.
The network announced on Wednesday (May 13) that Shawn Ryan will take over as showrunner/executive producer when "Lie to Me" returns next year.
"Lie to Me," which stars Tim Roth as truth-detection expert Cal Lightman, premiered earlier this spring to huge numbers after "American Idol." The show's ratings have predictably plummeted since FOX moved it to the 8 p.m. hour, but "Lie to Me" has still consistently won its relatively soft time period.
The renewal coincided with the show's May 13 first-season finale, which features guest stars Mekhi Phifer and Jennifer Beals.
"'Lie to Me' came out strong, built a solid audience throughout its run and promises to be one of our big assets next season and beyond," says FOX Entertainment President Ken Reilly. "We’re incredibly excited to have Shawn on board to infuse 'Lie to Me' with even more creative energy next season."
Ryan is the Emmy nominated creator of FX's "The Shield." He's most recently been working on "The Unit" and it's unclear if this move suggests that the CBS military show is sliding to the wrong side of the bubble. Ryan most recently worked with FOX on "The Oaks," a drama pilot ordered to series by the network, but then never aired.
