It looks like Michael Cera just can't say no. Ever since "Superbad" took the Canadian actor's career to another level, Cera has been hesitant to commit to a big screen version of the cult TV series "Arrested Development" which he starred as the perpetually awkward George-Michael Bluth on from 2003-2006. Now, EOnline's Kristen Dos Santos is reporting that Cera will join former cast members Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross after being the lone holdout.
Series creator Mitchell Hurwitz is writing and directing, and Fox's specialty division Fox Searchlight, who has had better success with quirky material such as Cera's "Juno" than it's old school sibling 20th Century Fox, will distribute.
Cera has been busy of late appearing in girlfriend (or is she?) Charlyne Yi's Sundance Film Festival entry "Paper Heart" and starring alongside Jack Black in this summer's biblical comedy "Year One." He's currently shooting Miguel Artera's adaptation of C.D. Payne's "Youth in Revolt" and will then segue into Edgar Wright's much anticipated "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."
If the story rings true, it appears Cera won't get much of a break as Fox Searchlight and Hurwitz hope to begin shooting the big screen "Development" by the end of the year.
