'Ugly Betty' moving to Wednesday nights

As time slots go, "Ugly Betty" fans knew things couldn't get any worse. Instead, things may be about to get a lot better for the struggling comedy.

ABC is shifting "Ugly Betty" from Friday nights to Wednesdays at 10 p.m., giving the show the time slot vacated by "Eastwick," which will finish its 13-episode run in January.

That will give "Ugly Betty" a much more compatible and successful lead-in in "Cougar Town," not that anything would have been much less successful or much less compatible than "Supernanny."

In its most recent airing in the post-Thanksgiving doldrums last Friday, "Ugly Betty" attracted fewer than 3.4 million viewers and only a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demo. Those numbers were a far cry from what the comedy did in its Emmy-winning heyday, though the show's ratings on Thursday last spring were also a far cry from said heyday.

As for Friday, according to Variety, ABC is likely to fill the 9 p.m. hour with "Shark Tank," which has five remaining episodes in the can. After that point, the network is expected to continue with unscripted programming, with specifics to be determined.

None of these shifts, though, will happen until January.
