Fast National ratings for Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

A primetime speech from President Obama forced NBC to squeeze out "The Jay Leno Show" for the first time this fall. The result, not so coincidently, was a demographic win for the network.

Meanwhile, CBS dominated the night overall and the return of a reconstituted "Scrubs" drew ratings very similar to those of the old "Scrubs" (i.e. "low").

Among adults 18-49, NBC won the night with a 3.2 rating. CBS was second with a 2.4 rating, nipping the 2.1 rating for FOX. ABC's 1.6 rating and the 0.9 rating for The CW followed.

Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 10.54 million viewers to go with a 6.9 rating/11 share. NBC was a solid second with a 5.9/9, with ABC's 3.5/6 and FOX's 3.4/5 following. The CW trailed with a 1.3/2.

In the 8 p.m. hour, CBS led the way with the Obama speech, plus the start of a "NCIS" episode, which averaged a 6.8/11. NBC was second with the speech and an NBC News follow-up, which had a 5.2/8 and won the hour with a 2.1 demo rating. ABC's speech coverage and a "Modern Family" repeat were third, beating the 3.2/4 for FOX's speech coverage and the start of "So You Think You Can Dance." The CW's "90210" was fifth with a 1.5/2.

CBS stayed in front at 9 p.m. with the end of "NCIS" and "Two and a Half Men," which averaged an 8.7/13. NBC's "The Biggest Loser" was second with a 6.0/9 and averaged a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demo to win the hour. FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" was third. Fourth place went to ABC's "Scrubs," which premiered its ninth season with a 2.8/4 overall and a 2.0 in the demo. The CW's "Melrose Place" continued to lack that elusive Heather Locklear bounce, doing a 1.0/2 and a 0.7 in the demo.

NBC won weeknight 10 p.m. hour for the first time in many a week, getting a 6.5/11 from "The Biggest Loser," which also won the demo with a 3.9 rating. CBS' "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" was second with a 5.2/9 overall and a 2.9 demo rating. ABC's "The Forgotten" trailed with a 3.6/6 and a dismal 1.2 demo rating.
