Green Day gets its own 'Rock Band' game

Green Day, 2009

Green Day will soon join artists like The Beatles, Aerosmith and Metallica in a list of musical acts with a video game namesake behind them.

The pop-punk trio will play centerstage with the next version of "Rock Band," in "Green Day: Rock Band" due some time in 2010.

Fans have been able to download tracks from the band's latest "21st Century Breakdown" this year, but this marks the first time when all albums will purportedly be fair game, courtesy of Harmonix/MTV Games/Warner Bros/Reprise. What will separate this game from "The Beatles: Rock Band," released this year, too, is that it boast "full export capability" -- that is, players will be able to use the songs in "Rock Band" or "Rock Band 2." In The Beatles version, players could only play the songs in the standalone game.

Avatars of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Durnt and Tre Cool will work their way through the band's old stomping grounds, on Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. "We want people to fire this up, choose their favorite Green Day tracks, and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it's like to perform on stage as Green Day," Armstrong said in a statement.

Green Day has been around since the late '80s and has yielded loads of hits like "When I Come Around" and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." I wonder if they'll included dopey secret track from "Dookie," "All By Myself..."
