NBC has officially announced that Nick Lachey will host the network's four-night event "The Sing-Off."
Premiering on Monday, Dec. 14, "The Sing-Off" pits eight a cappella teams against each other, continuing on Dec. 15 and Dec. 15, with a live finale on Dec. 21. The show will take up NBC's full two-hour primetime block each night.
The singing groups will be competing for a recording contract with Epic Records/Sony. The eight ensembles up for the prize will be Beelzebubs (Boston, Massachusetts), Noteworthy (Provo, Utah), Face (Boulder, Colorado), Maxx Factor (Baltimore, Maryland), Nota (San Juan, Puerto Rico), The SoCals (Los Angeles, California), Solo (Omaha, Nebraska) and Voices of Lee (Cleveland, Tennessee).
Critiquing their performances will be a three-judge panel led by Ben Folds and Boyz II Men's Shawn Stockman. A third, rotating, guest judge will appear each night, but that judge is so special NBC doesn't want to spoil the surprise.
