HitFix, new entertainment news website launches with established writers including Drew 'Moriarty' McWeeny

Longtime Ain't It Cool News contributor joins new start-up

Los Angeles, CA, December 16, 2008- HitFix, a new entertainment news and events website, today announced that longtime movie blogger and columnist Drew McWeeny will be joining the new online property, HitFix.com, which is launching this month.

McWeeny, who wrote under the pseudonym "Moriarty," will join a roster of established entertainment industry writers as the new online destination's full-time Film Editor. He will also launch a new movies and DVD blog on the site, Motion Captured.

HitFix.com's editorial team includes Daniel Fienberg, longtime Zap2It writer and American Idol blogger, who will spearhead the site's TV blog, The Fien Print; Melinda Newman, former West Coast Bureau Chief for Billboard, who will cover the music industry in The Beat Goes On; and site co-founder and editor-in-chief Gregory Ellwood, formerly of MSN Movies' Hollywood Hitlist column, who will chronicle the rest of this year's awards season in the Awards Campaign 2009 blog.

"When I was first approached about joining HitFix, I wondered what one more pop culture site could bring to the Internet that didn't already exist, but as I've learned more, I realized there is absolutely a demand for what we're going to provide," McWeeny says. "I think HitFix has a chance at becoming a major part of the daily lives of readers, and an important tool in how they plan and enjoy the entire world of entertainment, and that's a pretty great thing to be part of."

Founded by Ellwood and Jennifer Wilhelmi Sargent, two industry professionals with more than 20 years of combined online experience, HitFix.com integrates breaking entertainment news with downloadable events. The site's signature application, The HitFix Forecast, allows users to easily view everything that's next in entertainment, similar to a weather forecast. Whether it's what movies are in theaters, the must watch TV shows, new music and DVD releases, concert tours, sports tickets or local events, The HitFix Forecast will offer visitors a groundbreaking way to discover new events and personalize their entertainment options. HitFix's editorial team will spotlight the most important national events, but the site will also allow visitors to filter their experience to find out what's going on in their hometown. Beyond being able to sign up for reminders and alerts, users are able to download the events they are most interested in to their personal calendars.

Leading brands, such as Paramount Vantage, will be able to maximize the potential of this new property by reaching its target audience of entertainment enthusiasts, in this case, moviegoers.

"HitFix is well experienced in its editorial team and smart in knowing what people want from an entertainment website. This is an exceptional blend of elements in a crowded marketplace. The site will easily lend itself to becoming a major online destination and is an excellent, new platform for us to feature our upcoming releases 'Revolutionary Road' and 'Defiance," said Bladimar Norman, VP, Marketing at Paramount.

HitFix.com offers partners the opportunity to integrate brand campaigns with high-impact programs such as product placement, title sponsorship, custom editorial and advertorial, Forecast placement (for events), original content and much more.
