A True Hollywood Comeback: HitFix Brings TV Tattle Back To Life

TV Tattle Joins Growing Roster Of HitFix Blogs Beginning May 7

LOS ANGELES, May 7, 2013 -- HitFix (www.hitfix.com), the fastest growing provider of authentic entertainment news, announced today that, effective immediately, TV Tattle (www.tvTattle.com) has joined HitFix's growing family of popular entertainment blogs that includes Alan Sepinwall's “What's Alan Watching,” Drew McWeeny's “Motion Captured” and Kris Tapley's “In Contention.”

"Both HitFix and TV Tattle are committed to delivering timely and relevant entertainment news," said Jen Sargent, HitFix CEO. "TV Tattle has become a must-read for those who love television and HitFix is driving consumer discovery, conversation and choices across all aspects of entertainment. This brand aligns with our goal of bringing the most conversation worthy and engaging content to fans.”

Since launching the site independently in 2000, founder Norman Weiss built TV Tattle into something that is seen as “an addictive daily read for Hollywood power-players, entertainment journalists and TV fans alike” (The Hollywood Reporter). But on April 18 of this year the site went dark, with a message to fans that simply read "TV Tattle is calling it quits. This is the end of the line. Thanks for reading."

When reached for further comment, Weiss explained that his decision to shutter the site was not driven by any loss of love for TV journalism, but a difficult landscape for driving ad revenue independently, in spite of the site’s popularity. Upon hearing this, HitFix immediately contacted Weiss to discuss joining forces.

"TV Tattle has been a daily part of my TV news diet for so long, I wasn't sure anything could fill the void created by its shutdown,” said Alan Sepinwall, Sr. Editor and TV Critic for HitFix. “I'm very proud that HitFix could play a role in bringing Tattle back to life."

"HitFix is the perfect fit for reviving TV Tattle,” added Weiss. “I'm excited and grateful for this opportunity to continue doing what I have been doing."

TV Tattle is now available at www.hitfix.com/TVTattle, as well as at its original address of www.tvTattle.com.

Hulu and HitFix's Alan Sepinwal team up for "Best in Show" – A March Madness style tourney to name the top shows on TV

Fans will choose the best show on TV

LOS ANGELES (March 1, 2011) – Online television destination Hulu kicked off the second annual “Best in Show” bracket style tournament today with new partner HitFix. Like the NCAA’s March Madness, “Best in Show” gives Hulu fans a chance to vote for their favorite TV shows and determine the winner of each face off. (www.hulu.com/bestinshow)

Using “March Madness” style brackets, the five week competition starts with 32 shows with the field being cut in half each week until a champion is finally determined on April 1st.

This year’s “Best in Show” will feature commentary from HitFix.com’s esteemed Television Editor Alan Sepinwall. The popular TV critic will share his take on each of the match-ups and, like the fans, will be voting for his favorite shows.

Speaking of his duties as moderator, HitFix’s Sepinwall said, “I’m thrilled to be working with Hulu and I can’t wait to see if the fans’ votes align with the shows I prefer.”

To start, Hulu has selected four shows in each of eight categories: Comedy Hits, Work Place Comedy, Animation, Detective Drama, Medical Drama, Action, Sci-Fi, and Newcomers. Last year’s finals featured long running animated series “The Simpsons” going up against Sci-Fi juggernaut “Lost,” with “Lost” getting 66% of the vote and emerging as the eventual winner.

“Best in Show” will run for five weeks starting March 1st and conclude with the winner being announced on April 1st. HitFix and Hulu previously partnered on exclusive coverage of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.

HitFix Launches Fantasy Reality TV Leagues for American Idol Season 10

Former Idol contestants Phil Stacey and Melinda Doolittle will play with other Idol fans

Los Angeles, Calif., February 25th, 2011 – Entertainment news and events site HitFix.com unveiled a new game today for fans of “American Idol” inspired by Fantasy Sports. HitFix’s Fantasy Reality TV League for “American Idol” will allow fans of the country’s most popular television program to compete against each other in predicting this year’s “Idol” champion.

Although American Idol has been underway for several weeks, HitFix's Fantasy League (http://www.hitfix.com/AmericanIdol) has been designed to start when the show announces the top 24 contestants on Thursday, Feb. 24. At that time, players will be able to create their own private leagues or join site wide-open leagues. The player with the highest score across all leagues will be crowned the 2011 HitFix Fantasy American Idol Champion.

In an added bonus for “Idol” fans, former Idol veterans Phil Stacey and Melinda Doolittle, who finished 6th and 3rd respectively in season six, have signed on to also test their skills in predicting who the nation will crown the next “American Idol.”

HitFix made it a priority to ensure Fantasy Idol has a broad appeal. HitFix CEO Jennifer Sargent explained, “We wanted to create a game that would be fun and engaging for casual fans of the show as well as diehard ‘Idol’ lovers. After examining dozens of formats and scoring models we’ve come up with a game that’s easy to play and understand, but has enough depth to be interesting.”

The game play itself is fairly straightforward. Players will “drag and drop” pictures of the Idol contestants to rank them from best to worst. When a contestant is eliminated, players will score points based on where that contestant fell in their rankings. As the show eliminates different contestants, fantasy players will be able to revise their rankings every week.

HitFix Editor-in-Chief Gregory Ellwood commented, “Fantasy Football or Basketball is great if you love sports, but what if reality TV is your passion? We wanted to give people who might not be into sports a chance to compete against each other in an arena that’s familiar to them.”

Along with Stacey and Doolittle, HitFix Executive Editor and veteran “Idol” blogger Dan Fienberg, Yahoo Music Managing editor Lyndsey Parker and reality TV blogger Rickey Yaneza will also participate in the league. The American Idol contestant rankings of all five featured players will be made public so all Fantasy Idol players can benefit from the knowledge of the experts.

HitFix’s Fantasy Reality TV League for “American Idol” will end in mid-May when the nation crowns the show’s 10th winner.
